Baptisms
Baptism services at St John’s are some of the most exciting events in the life of the church! They are times of celebration as we thank God for the new life he gives us in Jesus Christ. Baptism is the main feature of being a follower of Jesus. We baptise adults who find faith in Jesus Christ, and also children of believing families. At St John’s we baptise by full immersion or we use less water such as a sprinkle. Special promises are made at baptism - words of commitment to Jesus Christ and his church.
When baptising infants or young children, parents are asked to choose Godparents whose main role is to pray that their godchild will grow up following Jesus. Godparents must already be baptised and there should be a minimum of three; two should be the same gender as your child. If you would like to know more about what being a Godparent involves, please contact us using the button below.
Parents usually follow a baptism preparation class before committing to the baptism of their child.
